First off David, I like the new LnF a lot. It also seems spritelier. Nicely done!
I'll divide my comments into presentation vs. content matters, since most of the content issues are not related to your work on the presentation level. Presentation: - Unlike the rest of the buttons on the left border, the "PayPal Donate" button doesn't allow one to "Open Link in [New Window | New Tab | Ext. App]" or to "[Bookmark This | Save | Send | Copy] Link ...". Is that something you have control over? I suspect from its behavior (reloading with page refresh) that it's not. - The RexxLA button has a typo in URL (http://www/rexxla.org). - I like the Google search facility but I wish the entry box was at least twice as long, space permitting. - I second Les' request to replicate the top links (or otherwise make them available) across the bottom of the pages as well. Ideally, all the left panel items would scale to fit on one screen and be fixed in place so they wouldn't scroll with the page content. That way they too would be always visible and accessible. - The Normal and Large screen styles worked for me, but didn't seem to make that much difference on my laptop. But if Les is happy with them, I'm happy. The "UserPref" link didn't do anything, though. I assume it should open a window that would allow me to specify custom screen or font sizes so I could display the site on my cellphone sensibly? - On my laptop, the color of the page title (e.g. "About Open Object Rexx") is very close to the color of the hotlinks across the top. Could they be color-matched to either of the reds in the "ooRexx" or "RexxLA" logos, or perhaps introduce a complementary color (IBM blue?) to make it obvious that they are not links? - In a related matter, I like it that the highlight color of a left-column hotlink matches the page title text color. But the top-of-page hotlink highlights do not match the title text color. If you're going to change the hotlinks to highlight consistently, could we try a nice IBM blue for the highlights and titles? Think of it as an homage. :-) - On the "Downloads" page, is the "Current Releases" table automatically generated? If not, this could pose an on-going chore to keep it updated. If so, NEAT! I think it's a great idea because it avoids having to deal with what could be a confusing Sourceforge page. Content: - On the "Products" page, no mention is made of RxFtp. Even as a native class library, it wouldn't hurt to advertise it (and anything else comparable) here. - There is a nice logo for Apache/ooRexx at the bottom of every page, but no mention (that I could find) of where one might go to learn more. - Do we not have any (separate?) documentation for RxUtil or RxRegExp? If so, they need to be included in the "Documentation" page. - On the "Contacts" page, the Development Team needs to be updated and perhaps renamed. The nomenclature seems to be that anyone could be a "developer", but only the best are chosen to be "committers". It might be difficult to keep a list of "developers" current. - On the "Downloads" page, I would suggest that the "Current Releases" table go first, with a note to the effect that "if you don't see what you want, go to Sourceforge", then follow that with the "All Downloads" info. - The content of the"Contributions" page needs to include a novice's guide to acquiring the CVN tools and a copy of the trunk, and proper procedures for submitting a patch, so others won't have to fumble around like Jon did. A cookbook approach to setting up a Sourceforge sandbox would be nice too. - The "Project Status" page should have a section for "Related Projects" where ooRexx-related projects (e.g. the mainframe port, GTKRxDlg, other interfaces) are referenced with contact points for further info, offers to help, etc. - I assume the "Home" page is for Hot Topics, News, etc. It wouldn't hurt to put a "Coming Soon" announcement about next year's Rexx Symposium there.
