Taf,

You have a leg up on me. Just as I got started to do -- more or less -- what
you're about to do, my partner upgraded the z/os to 1.13 and we've had a
miserable time ever since. So go for it!

As to how I got ooRexx uploaded to our zpdt, I just used my iMac to download
the source; used a binary upload to FTP it to a OMVS directory; used PAX to
unpack it and convert it from ASCII to EBCDIC; then I tried the configure
script (it failed); backed up and tried the bootstrap script (it also failed
because we didn't have the "tools and toys" that make OMVS actually useable).
I've been stuck there for about 2 weeks now because our system is so tight on
storage, we've had to tinker with other packs to get the space I need to
enlarge the ZFS filesystem I want to use. Plus we realized that the system that
IBM sent us did not have the ZFS subsystem fully installed.

I think that in a day or two I maybe able to get going on the project again.

Earl

Hi Rene & Earl

OK, I'm now getting tracking messages from SourceForge for ooRexx, so I
think I'm signed up with the project. I'm still getting error messages
trying to post to the oorexx-devel mailing list, but it may take until
Sunday for that to take effect.

>From Earl's last reply (about wanting to use IBM's compiler), I got the
impression that he has gotten the code loaded to a USS file system
somewhere and is trying to compile some of the code. Is this correct? If
so, what did you use to get the code onto your zOS system?

I've managed to gum up the system (no longer getting MVS logon solicitation
screen, just the Herc splash screen), Rene can you look at this, maybe
reIPL the system?.

Pending a reply from Earl indicating how he got the code loaded to a zOS
system, I'm planning to:

   - define a second TSO user id
   - add OMVS segments to both userids
   - define zFS file sytems with profiles for both my ids
   - find and install a CVS or SVN client to the USS file system
   - start at the beginning (bootstrap and configure)
   - work my way thru the build process (using Earl's discoveries re: IBM's
   C/C++ compiler)

Any comments? suggestions?
