Jeremy, since the submitter callls the bug a socksend bug my reading
was that he was crafting his own send mail and doing it incorrectly.

That still is my reading of the bug report.

But, I agree with you and Rick that I probably closed it prematurely
and I'll reopen it.

So, it seems this is an area where you do have the required expertise.
 Patches are always welcome to fix these types of things.
