When a program that loads a 1.6-Mio-word dictionary from a file stopped
working under 5.0.0 (it seemed to hang forever), I investigated the cause
and found makeArray() to be the culprit.
When I saw that 4.2.0 elapsed time doubled with each doubling of the number
of items (as expected), but 5.0.0 almost quintupled elapsed time with each
doubling of items, I thought I'd report this
