Since its inception, the oorexx project has struggled to attract new
developers and over the years, those we were able to attract as committers
have drifted away from the project. This has resulted in the project
having a very small "bus factor" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_factor)
with just 3 really active developers. Mark Miesfeld's illness and passing
last year created a massive hole in the project that David Ashley and I
have struggled to fill. All of our attempts at getting additional people
involved have failed. As a result, both of us have decided it is time for
us to leave as well. The amount of work needed to continue exceeds what we
are will or able to provide.
Jon Wolfers is picking up the administration of the project for now and is
attempting to see if a new developer community can be created. I will
continue to monitor the mailing lists and will answer questions about any
aspects of the code, processes, etc. that I can, but I will not be
contributing any new code or directly involved with the debugging of
problems.
It has been and interesting and at times tiring 10 years of working on this
project, but the time has come to make an end.
