I'm not sure we know what the minimum version dependencies are as far as
the OS distributions. The code is reasonably generic C++. We know there was
at least one GCC version that had a bug that caused build errors. As long
as you can avoid that version of the compiler, things are likely to build.
That said, the more versions there are, the more difficult it is to support
everything, so be reasonable.
