The ooRexx project is announcing the start of an official beta release
of ooDialog 4.2.0.

ooDialog 4.2.0 is the first major enhancement in ooDialog in over a
decade. There are many improvements and enhancements, more than can
be listed explicitly. The Release Notes displayed alongside the
ooDialog installation package in the File download section on
SourceForge has a "New in ooDialog 4.2.0" section that gives an
outline of the changes. To fully understand the changes refer to the
ooDialog 4.2.0 reference manual, which is include with the 4.2.0
installation.

As always, open up any bugs discovered in the beta release in the bug
tracker on SourceForge:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=119701&atid=684730

and report documentation errors in the doc tracker on SourceForge:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=119701&atid=1001880

ooDialog users are strongly urged to test the beta release and open up
bugs now, rather than wait for the official release.

In conjunction with the announcement of the beta, the ooRexx project
is announcing the option of installing ooDialog "independently" of the
ooRexx installation. An independent installation of ooDialog is an
installation package that installs a version of ooDialog over the top
of an existing ooRexx installation.

The ooDialog installation package replaces whatever version of
ooDialog currently exists in the ooRexx installation with the
installation package's version of ooDialog. Each independent version
of ooDialog has a minimum required version of ooRexx. Any version of
ooDialog can be installed as long the version of the installed ooRexx
meets the minimum requirement of the ooDialog package.

The following packages are available:

ooDialog Version Required ooRexx Version
================================================

ooDialog 4.0.0 ooRexx 4.0.0

ooDialog 4.1.0 ooRexx 4.0.0

ooDialog 4.2.0 (beta 1) ooRexx 4.1.0

The ooDialog version numbers have been decoupled from the ooRexx
version numbers. Future versions of ooDialog will be released as
independent installation packages. If a new version of ooDialog is
available, users will be able to upgrade to that version of ooDialog
without waiting for a new version of ooRexx to be released.

ooDialog will continue to be distributed with ooRexx. A new release
of ooRexx will contain the latest released version of ooDialog. Note
that with the independent installation of ooDialog users that may be
unhappy with the direction ooDialog is taking will always be able to
upgrade their ooRexx installation, and then install the older version
of ooDialog.

The independent installation packages make upgrading to ooDialog 4.2.0
risk free. If the user is unhappy with ooDialog 4.2.0, then the user
can simply install the ooDialog 4.1.0 package to regain the ooDialog
version prior to the upgrade.

The ooDialog section in the ooRexx File download area on SourceForge
contains the installation packages for ooDialog:
