Hi Bill,
probably not much help, but long ago I wrote to a label printer on a com
port under windows.
At that point I just used the following
printer = .stream~new(.lab.port)
printer~open('write')
...
printer~charout(arg(1))
...
printer~close
One thing that might be helpful (or may not) was that i found I couldn't
open the port if I referred to it as com1, but if I called it com1.jon (the
jon is not significant, just the first thing I tried) then it worked.
I never needed to do duplex communications.
I adjusted the port settings through the windows control panel (device
manager). No idea how to do this programatically, though it may have
something to do with the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Ports\
although the involvement of the USB to Serial adapter probably complicates
things.
