Hmm.. You're asking difficult questions, especially for techies.
I have to agree with Tim for the GPL or nothing part. It doesn't
help much to have the RTL of a chip if can be tainted by it.
Unless of course, you have a non-tainting license, but then, how
would you protect your IP against commercial users?
The other thing is, if you release any RTL code while you still
sell it, you cannot be sure whether any company usses the IP
in a way that contradicts your license?
I mean, it's already hard with software where you can have
a look a the binary, how can you have a look at a chip after
it's been packaged ?
Yes, i'd really like to have a look at the RTL, i'd like to
learn from it. But i see that there are quite some problems
to that.
