I would be interested in this too. I use a Matrox G450 now, but it only
works in linux. X works in unaccelerated mode. XFree acceleration hangs the
machine. A few revisions of the SB1250 have bugs in legacy IO space
accesses which can cause the machine to hang if you try to access
certain IO space addresses. I suspect this is the problem with the 
acceleration drivers in Xfree. I have one of those buggy revisions.
So it would be very nice if the card can be completely controlled without 
using legacy VGA IO space registers. 
VGA or even MDA compatibility is totally uninteresting to me. It would be nice 
if there were a bitstream version which leaves this out providing room for 
other features.
