And just to make this clear for the 100th time, this discussion is not about the greatness of Open Source, which we all understand. The discussion is about figuring out how to open-source it without making it impossible to fund production of the hardware.
The repeated anecdotes that try to convince us how great open source is are just getting repetitive and annoying. I can make the very same arguments. It's like a broken record--the same thing's repeated over and over, and no one's paying attention to the fact that it's (a) already agreed with, and (b) off-topic.
