How much expense do you want to add to this thing? It would cost as
much to produce a card with ZERO memory and slots than it would to
just put RAM directly on the board. And then you'd get poorer
performance, because we'd have to use more conservative memory timing
numbers.
You ask for expandable memory, but do you know the consequences of
that?
I'm looking at it from a PCI based view. A reason to defend the premium
price.
I don't want to max it out within a year after sale. Because of DDR2
and DDR3 the price of DDR will some day drop dramatically and then I
will max out the card knowing that KDE will use it as cache on my slow
PCI bus.
This will also make the card the ultimate PCI graphics upgrade card.
Upgrade slow machines with fast visual KDE in OpenGL composed X11
windowing. I think I would like to downgrade the card for that a bit,
perhaps it could be a choice in the bios or something.
The slot would not be useful on the AGP or PCI express version as those
system have fast enough system memory and CPU to feed the graphics card.
And yes, on the PCI card I'm willing to pay extra for such a slot say
15 dollar as it will make the card stand apart from 5200 type budget
cards.
