My copy of Palnitkar's "Verilog HDL" arrived yesterday, and I've
started studying. The syntax doesn't look all that different from VHDL, so
far.
You could pick up a used copy from Amazon for maybe $30; I was able
to get one back-ordered through a local used-book store, along with a couple
of other popular books on the subject.
