This has come up before.  And the answer is that we'll have to wait
and see.  OGA1 is intentionally a stripped-down design, which means
that attempting to stick to its interface in the future would put
limits on what advancements we can make.  However, a few generations
down the road, we should be able to stablize some parts of the
register interface.  As more and more functionality gets moved into
the hardware, the interface will look more and more like an API, where
the functionality is encapsulated behind an abstraction layer.  In the
mean time, however, we cannot afford to do that.
