We wouldn't want to have to connect two adaptors. The likely
situation is that anyone wanting to do 500MHz video has a damn
expensive monitor and doesn't mind spending a little extra on a cable
that goes directly from DVI-I to 5-BNC.
The problem with using the adapter cable is that it does degrade the
video signal -- even BNC connectors aren't perfect. That is the reason
that high end monitors have 5 BNC connectors -- to avoid the cables
degrading the signal. How much? That is an open question but when you
get to 0.5 GHz it is going to make some difference. There are ways to
deal with this without having 5 BNC connectors on the board.
