Used a 200MHz Hitachi SuperH processor. Very advanced at the time. It was canned due to the downturn after 9/11. We could always pickup from there (It was IIRC completly opensource hardware & software) & develop something similiar. Basically it had almost everything you could throw at it... Solar panels to extend battery life, IO up the wazoo (rs232 rs422 USB dual PCcard audio IR) etc. They'd got as far as building test hardware IIRC. Which all seemed to work.
