The discussion on sound cards really got me thinking the last couple of days. This is something I've been interested in for some time now, but I don't have the audio experience. I'm going over the threads again (this time taking notes ;) with the intent of writing a spec. I think it is doable, it is just going to need some finessing to get it right. Targeting semi-pro audio and hardcore gamers is probably the best bet as these two groups are willing to spend for good hardware. Making it easy for hobbyists to hack would of course open that market up too. It would also make 3rd party accessories easier to do, which would increase saleability as well. I will post my spec as soon as I have it written. If anyone with real audio experience is interested in actually doing this, or at least providing advice, I would be happy to do what I can :)
