There's trademark (TM) and registered trademark (R in a circle).
I assume the registered version has more protection.

My understanding is that anyone can use a trademark unless they
are selling a product.

For example, I can say "Could you xerox these for me?" and the
Xerox Corporation can do nothing about it. However if I am selling
photocopy machines, I can't call a Canon photocopier a xerox.

If enough people use a trademark in a generic sense, the company
can lose the trademark. IIRC, Bayer lost the trademark to aspirin.
Xerox and kleenex are in danger of going that way. But all the
trademark owner can do is politely request that you not do it.

And of course, the rules probably vary from one country to another.

For a logo, copyright might provide some protection.

And there is nothing to stop someone from using a similar style graphic.

When AT&T came out with the "death star" logo, suddenly lots of companies
came out with various logos and graphics with similar stripes. In fact,
the Traversal logo reminds me of the death star logo.

As always, for real legal advise, see a real lawyer.

So... looking at this thing... I get

        3D eye candy
reminds me of AT&T death star
striped cloth draped over a ring?
        The letter 'O' ?

And yeah, if you want something that will scale down nicely, this isn't it.
