Have you read this document:
http://intel.com/design/chipsets/datashts/307502.htm
I personally have not. But we get a request on the linuxbios list
about every 2 weeks or so to see if a motherbord that has Intel 8xx
stuff on it is supported.
And the answer from the people who _have_ looked at it is that there
is not enough docs there. For the 440bx I even had access to the
yellow books on the chipset and there was still memory init stuff that
was not very well documented.
Of course its all in the commercial bios on the board so someone who
was really interested in getting it working could do it but its hard
enough to get it right when you _have_ the docs.
Few of us Linuxbios developers are interested in the level of effort
it would take to make it work without the docs. We have a hard enough
time keeping up with things as they are.
Linuxbios also has a strict policy against any RE code. So you would
need the full cleanroom approach (one to RE the spec and one to
impelemnt). And there
just aren't that many people with the right skills (and equipment)
that are interested.
All that said we would _love_ to have support for those chipsets.
Myself and the other LB developers will be happy to help if someone
wanted to try to RE the chipset.
