That is not gonna fly. Not even close. Do you have any idea how
user unfriendly that is?

Easy to fix. Some cards have dip-switches or jumpers. There are also those
switches used for SCSI IDs with the up and down buttons and hex digits in the
window.
I've never seen a common off the shelf graphics card that had jumpers
designed for setting unusual video modes. Although somewhat
specialized, OGC1 will be essentially a COTS card. I have, however,
seen plenty of vertical-market cards that do something like this,
although usually limited to a small number of known modes.
In fact, what you're describing is a very vertical-market sort of
thing, almost into Tech Source's territory. If someone wants this,
they should expect to pay more money, in which case we can easily
accommodate them.
