Hi
Do you already have ideas about the power consumption for the first available
cards and the cooling system ?
Ok, my information may be inaccurate, but I THINK I heard Howard say
something about the Xilinx FPGA requiring 5 to 10 watts. The ASIC
should require significantly less power.
OGD1 has mounting holes for a heat sync of fan, but we don't know if
we'll need one yet. Overclockers, have fun with that.
In a few months, I'm going to buy a new computer, and I want something Linux
friendly, but also environment friendly. For this point, the main issues are
power consumption and cooling system (I want something fanless, no more
noise...)
OGC1 will probably be more than a "few months," although some have
expressed interest in using OGD1 as a (relatively slow) substitute in
the mean time.
So how will behave the OG card about this ?
Will there be dynamic frequency change for instance ?
We won't make it hard to change the clock rate. Actually, the only
thing affecting that is convenience and cost to design and build.
Something resembling speedstep or whatever would be valuable to
consider, but that would be largely under software control.
