First you say freeze the graphics API forever, then you say rip out
everything in the kernel that supports text mode at boot time. This seems
contradictory to me.
There's something else to consider. Graphics is an option. Some
platforms that run Linux don't have it at all, and yet they must provide a
console at boot time. There was word on linuxtoday.com that the real time
features are on track to be merged into the stock kernel in a year or so;
that probably means there will be more systems running Linux on platforms
without graphics cards, on all sorts of CPU architectures.
PCs aren't the whole world of computing.
Other than that, you made a lot of good points.
