Looks good!
If nobody else is interested in doing it, as it appears, I would be
interested in taking a stab at the fbcon driver. I have 0 experience
writing any sort of graphics driver, but I do know C and I did some char
drivers from LDD3 :-) Plus, I need to write a graphic driver at some
point anyway (for my own embedded video card), so this is as good a time
as any to learn. Obviously, if you aren't interested in me writing it
(hey, I wouldn't be if I were you :-)), I don't really care: I figure
that I need to learn this stuff anyway, and need to get ODG1 anyway, so
saving about $600+ never hurts.
I could also take a look at the kernel driver, but that looks a bit more
complicated with all the PCI negotiation, etc. As long as whatever you
assign doesn't involve "Mesa" or "DRI", I'm happy. That includes
assigning me nothing.
With regard to software, I will often offer code and make suggestions
about how I think things should be done. But as for assignment of
software tasks, who will do it, and other details of that nature, I
personally would prefer to take a relatively hands-off approach. In
part because I want to focus on hardware, part out of desire to not
interfere, and part laziness.
As such, the only suggestion I feel I can make is for other people
with experience in this area to speak up, make suggestions and help
out people like Nicholas.
Thank you for offering to help, Nicholas. I have a feeling you'll be
doing more work than you had anticipated. :)
