Several companies are now making chips that do video decoding, including HD H.264 at reasonable bitrates. Some also do encoding. Some are kinda spendy, but at least one is under $40, probably less if we don't need both chips of the chipset, and I assume there are volume discounts. Some are under 1 Watt, thus both cheaper and more energy efficient than using a CPU to decode.
We still need to get prices for some of them, and of course data sheets. If we can find one that is sufficiently documented, and reasonably priced, it might be an easy way to add video decoding to the OGC board. The info we've found is in the ethervideo list archives. The new lists have been very low volume so far, so don't be afraid to subscribe. _______________________________________________ Open-graphics mailing list [email protected] http://lists.duskglow.com/mailman/listinfo/open-graphics List service provided by Duskglow Consulting, LLC (www.duskglow.com)
