Wine on 64bit regularly has users reporting problems. There is a page
dedicated to that somewhere.. it has been so common that Dan Kegel,
the release manager and Google guy recently recommended to someone
that they just install linux for 32 bit. Lets see..
http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit

Dan has scripts to get all the requirements for Ubuntu - apparently it
works well.
http://wiki.winehq.org/Recommended_Packages

for fedora 9 there is a known bug for previous RC2 & RC3 that keeps
getting mentioned.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13445

Here is a recent example I saw on the wine-user list:
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:7412: Warning: end of file not at end of a line;
newline inserted
{standard input}:7745: Error: unknown pseudo-op: `.l'
gcc: Internal error: Segmentation fault (program cc1)
Please submit a full bug report.
See <http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla> for instructions.

Wine developer vitamin suggested:

To fix run 'ulimit -s unlimited' and continue compiling Wine.
</end quote>
