Our front page does not adequately explain why we need an open
graphics card. Here are a few problems I have seen with helping those
who insist upon nvida cards and closed drivers:

You cannot always update the kernel when you like. How you like.
no one can alter it, debug it nor fix it.
You have given up your freedoms over your own computer.

Please list what problems you see with using proprietary cards: What about ATI?
for example: Andy mentioned in the past, their bios restricts how it is used.

With ATI, there is still firmware that is not considered free by the Debian Free Standards Group (in the firmware-linux package).

Also with ATI, it is difficult to buy a new graphics adaptor or motherboard with on-board ATI graphics that is fully supported by the Free drivers (which still depend on the above firmware for acceleration). The old Radeon 9200SE in this almost-eleven-year-old machine supports acceleration using the non-DFSG-Free firmware and Free driver, but the Radeon 3200 HD on a just-purchased Asus M3A78 Pro motherboard does not (yet) support acceleration with Free drivers. (The new motherboard does support disabling the on-board graphics adaptor and using PCI or PCIe as the primary display adaptor, so it could run an OGP1).

we can then use this as a basis for updating the front page and the faq.
thanks

Arthur.
