Fins are fine. Heatsinks are quiet and reliable, fans are not. I suppose they use fans because fans are cheaper and smaller and most people don't care. I have an audio power amp that is rated at 200 Watts per channel and doesn't have a fan. So it should be possible to build an fanless ethervideo box. Microprocessors didn't need fans until DEC's Alpha. That said, we don't want obscene electric bills or a room heater. Or construction techniques that only Black Forest Elves can work on. _______________________________________________ Open-hardware-ethervideo mailing list [email protected] http://lists.duskglow.com/mailman/listinfo/open-hardware-ethervideo
