records from the database?

Ah, it might be caused by that.
Did you run autogen.sh after modifying the branches? You have to run
this every time you change the organization hierarchy.
Do the depths assigned for each org_unit type match the depths to
which they've been assigned to the org_units in your tree? (For
example, if you have an org_unit of type "Library" that is a child of
another "Library", your hierarchy is invalid because a given type of
org_unit can only have one valid depth - and search will fail as a
result).
