I think it would be best if, just like the ISSN hyphen filtering, we pulled the filtering from the client side and made it all happen server side, so that we can ensure that the results are consistent from any interface.
Agreed with one caveat. There is a know issue with Evergreen 1.2 (in particular, OpenSRF 0.9) where a trailing \ will give the perl JSON parser fits. So, we need to keep \-escapding in the OPAC until 1.4.
