Dear Evergreen Community: Most (if not all) of you have probably heard of Koha. Koha is the other major open source ILS and was initially developed in New Zealand. It has been around for about a decade and has a mature international community surrounding it. It is a different animal than Evergreen in many ways--Koha has a lower barrier to entry and is largely suited for small-to-medium sized libraries. Evergreen, on the other hand, was built with a statewide consortium in mind and its design echoes that environment.
Today I am announcing an initiative by Equinox to begin offering Koha support and hosting services targeted at the small-to-medium sized library market. Galen Charlton will be leading the effort within Equinox. The plan is to start small and only build organically as demand for Equinox Koha services warrants. This move plays to Equinox’s strengths as a company. We have experience hosting and supporting open source ILS’s as well as personnel with Koha expertise. Please know that this move in no way diminishes Equinox’s commitment to Evergreen nor does it reduce the resources dedicated to Evergreen within Equinox. We hope this initiative will help promote cross-community cooperation and sharing between the Evergreen and Koha communities. There is so much in common between these two communities and so much to be gained. As always, thanks for your support. -- Brad LaJeunesse, MLIS | CEO | Equinox Software, Inc. / The Evergreen Experts | phone: 1-877-OPEN-ILS (673-6457) | email: [email protected] | web: http://www.esilibrary.com Please join us for the Evergreen 2010 International Conference!
