A good starting point for more information about developing for Evergreen is our ideas page [1] and our documentation of the developer virtual image [2], which is probably the fastest way for you to get up and running with a test Evergreen system.

Our main application requirement is that students should submit a patch or point to a Git branch that fixes a small bug or adds a small enhancement to Evergreen. In the case of folks like you who you are interested in proposing to develop an Android app for Evergreen, pointing to a demo Android app would strengthen one's application, but we still require that the GSoC application include a patch that improves Evergreen. A demo Android app that can interact with Evergreen in a small but meaningful way (i.e., it would have to do more than just embed the Evergreen public catalog interface in a WebView widget) would meet the requirement.
