I do think the community will respond/is responding to a call for help. MassLNC is sponsoring a software evaluation that, among other things, will evaluate and come up with recommendations for the staff client.

Unfortunately, we have had some delays in the project, not due to any negligence on the part of the consultant, but due to problems MassLNC has encountered setting up the test environment. We're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and expect the evaluation to begin shortly, but that still leaves another 2 1/2 months before the evaluation is done.

I know my organization is willing to contribute resources to a new staff client or to other performance improvements that come out of the evaluation, and I believe others in the community are willing to do the same. I just would like to see some evaluation first that explores the source of our problems and has some recommendations for the best approach for moving forward.

Yes, Would be very nice if we could get a Sponsors,
but we don't have at the moment.
I any way, we could starting creating a group to discuss Framework, Goals,
Design, model of development, etc.
After defined the what technologies to use, with
a modular/plugin approach, anyone that have the willing to do a module, could start and do.

Yep, and it is a "shit or get off the pot" moment. Until someone
seriously puts resources into it, ain't nothing happening. I agree it
must be done, but my bosses tell me that I have other priorities.

Resources don't necessarily mean dollars/euros/whatever, but
    everything
    is eventually calculated that way.
