Hi All, I didn't see the request to "introduce" until right before the meeting. I was fortunate to attend the EG conference discussion on documentation and the first webinar.
As the Project Manager for our library's recent (2 weeks today) migration to Evergreen, I can attest to a huge need for what this group intends to accomplish! Thanks to Paul and Karen for being the "beacons" and to you all for your enthusiasm. The spirit of Open-source is community and sharing, and we will help make things better for those to follow! I'm a "career veteran" and generalist, working in almost every type of library except archives and public schools (although volunteered there a lot). I've been in almost every type of library position. I got the technology bug in the 80s, and loved the development of the Web, and now 2.0. My kids keep me into "what's happening", and I'm on Facebook. After managing the migration for a suburban library in NW Chicago (part of consortium) and implementing first generation RFID at the same time, my husband and I moved South to get away from the cold. One of my specific skills is database management, which is one of my current roles in my organization now, and why documentation is of interest to me. Glad to be part of the group! Marlene Marlene F. I have worked in an automotive industry library (major responsibilities were document and inventory control of proprietory materials such as prototypes), a small academic branch library, a large academic library, and a digital library. Regardless of which ILS I worked in, I always thought it could be better -- better for the user, better for the worker bee. I am a huge fan of opensource and I have been following Evergreen with much interest. I contributed a tiny bit of documentation to the Evergreen project and I have contributed to a variety of other OSS projects (design templates, a little php coding here and there, a little documentation here and there). I am very excited to see the development of the documentation and the continued growth of Evergreen. I am always willing to lend a hand in whatever way that I can. My travel plans have changed a tiny bit, so I may even make it to the webinar this afternoon. What a great group! You can find the recording of today's meeting-webinar, the 90-day project timeline, and a longer narrative description of the timeline's milestones. We'll update you as more info is uploaded, but you can see these documents here: http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=evergreen-docs:evergreen_documentation_project Some of you might notice the recording file is .wmv. If this is against your religion :-) you are welcome to take the file and convert it to another format, and we will upload it. Bon appetit! -- -- | Karen G.
