We have been drafting the help text and hope to put some of it into our test system tomorrow. We too have been trying to avoid KCLS policy/procedure information. We have been including links to our Circulation Manual sections so the staff member can jump to that information from the help pages. We have been creating them in a Google Doc so Cheryl can access the text from wherever she may be working at the moment. We are finding that we may have to add some information to our Circulation Manual. We had included a number of things in the manual for our current ILS. Since our goal is to NOT create/use a manual with Evergreen we are hoping we will have enough detail information in the Evergreen Help screens and our circulation manual.
We did a "discovery session" 2 weeks ago. We worked with Cheryl to create exercises covering the common tasks. We found this went VERY well. We even received an email from one of the staff members commenting on how much better she felt she had learned. We selected folks who had a wide range of skill levels from various sizes of libraries to try to get a good mix of styles. Today, I held a similar Discovery Session with the Circulation Supervisors and it also went pretty well. We had more questions, some were due to bugs still in the system. Many of the questions were more procedural. Next week we will begin training the trainers for circulation. We have to train approximately 750 staff in two months in circulation and OPAC! Our point person will be Cheryl Gould. As we say in the IRC chatroom, Lori++ (and Cheryl++, etc.) I'm willing to integrate such files into trunk and update a trunk server so all can play with them as they're developed, or alternately, we could make a documentation branch that follows trunk and be very liberal with handing out commit privileges for it. Whatever we do, I hope to see some other community stakeholders team up with KCLS/Galecia for sanity checking. I'm also here for any Evergreen questions that may come up, especially pertaining to the staff client. Just please ask on-list (or in the chatroom), rather than directly, so that others can participate, etc. Thanks! -- Jason Etheridge | VP, Tactical Development | Equinox Software, Inc. / The Evergreen Experts | phone: 1-877-OPEN-ILS (673-6457) | email: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> | web: http://www.esilibrary.com _______________________________________________ OPEN-ILS-DOCUMENTATION mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://list.georgialibraries.org/mailman/listinfo/open-ils-documentation
