I have created two new bugs in Launchpad with documentation for doing things at the Apache level. Because in both cases I couldn't decide where to put them in the regular documentation I am deferring to the experts for that, hence this email. Also, I figure that both could possibly belong in a new section of documentation as they both cover "things you can do almost entirely in Apache".

The first covers some mod_rewrite tricks that MVLC has been using and sharing with others. I am unsure where to put it in the regular documentation, and I also figure it is possible that others may want to expand upon it before it becomes regular documentation.

The second also contains the code it is documenting, a new AccessHandler module that uses the OPAC login page instead of basic auth. In addition to being able to protect things so that only staff can access them (via permission checking, say STAFF_LOGIN or similar) it can also be used to protect things for Patron access (say, proxied websites). Given that it could be useful in both cases I was again unsure where to put it in the regular documentation. In this case I duplicated what I had come up with for Release Notes and changed the header levels so that the Release Notes can be safely trimmed if desired.

Both bugs have been tagged with documentation and pullrequest, though obviously the AccessHandler one needs to also be looked over by a developer.

Feel free to ask me questions directly or via updating the Launchpad bugs.
