Have you tried Step 3 from Starting Evergreen at http://evergreen-ils.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=server:1.4.0:install ? Specifically, as user opensrf you should: cd /openils/bin ./autogen.sh -c /openils/conf/opensrf_core.xml -u That should get rid of the "au is not defined" error.
