OK, that makes sense but why can't we reuse the bar code when we go to

What record are you referring to?  The copy record does stay around,
though from the perspective of the circ staff it "goes away" --
requiring reentry of the title and author.  This is to retain circ
stats once the item is moved to the correct bib record.
