That should work. The Alt + numbers (use the right hand keypad) is pretty universal in Windows. They start at about 130 (é) and finish up in the 150s. I've had them memorized for years (I'm in Canada, so use French on a semi-regular basis). You could try a google search - I'm certain there must be someone who has put out a cheat sheet.
