Thanks Vicki and everyone else! I really don't know why it took us so long to get to this point, but other parts of the job just have a way of interfering. The hiring freeze that left us severely short-handed had a lot to do with it. Once we got the hiring freeze lifted, it was so much easier to devote time to this project.
Alpha-G got the migration done overnight, and I'm still amazed by that. It was so much faster than when we went live on our previous ILS! It felt odd going live on a Thursday, but it's our slowest day of the week so it seemed like the best idea. And it worked. Whew! Hooray! We have been live since Thursday, at which time my local server decided to have serious problems. Thankfully, Alpha-G Consulting was able to bring us up on one of their servers while we got ours going again. I now know things I never imagined needing to know, such as how to wipe out and create virtual disks. And I extremely thankful that John Craig is an incredibly patient man since he had to walk me through setting up RAID, hot spares and Ubuntu over the telephone yesterday without any way to see what I was doing. Thankfully, he can connect remotely from this point on and get everything back in place because I really don't know that anyone should have to walk me through that on top of everything else. There are still kinks to work out, but most of my staff and patrons seem very happy with Evergreen. And just a few minutes ago, I discovered the very cool Toggle Button Bar. I suppose it has been there all along and I just ignored it during all the time we were testing the ILS, but I would like to think it just appeared last night. Either way, it made my circ staff very happy when I showed it to them. It was worth coming in on a Saturday just to hear them shouting, "Holy moly, this is cool!" The patrons, on the other hand, just edged away from the crazy circ people. Deanna Deanna Frazee Director of Library Services Killeen City Library System 205 E.
