It wasn't privacy concerns with staff. If information is retained, it is warrantable. When libraries have explained that to PINES patrons, they generally agree that they don't need the borrowing history as much as they thought.

For that level of service, I think they need to opt into having their borrowing history tracked and being used appropriately by staff. (Especially if the alternative is having staff track borrowing in some less-efficient manner, which is what many people are doing now.)
