You probably should have run "aptitude safe-upgrade" after running
"aptitude update"; running "aptitude remove" would remove a number of
prereq packages and lead to breakage.
I started the EG installation again with the VM that only had OSRF,
and I ran "aptitude remove" then "aptitude safe-upgrade".
I am all set now, and I hope this exchange could help somebody else in
the future.
