Our catalogers usually put them in the bucket and do reasonable sized batches. Sometimes they open a local help desk ticket and ask staff with database/backend access to write a script to do it.
Note that "reasonable sized" varies depending on circumstances. Hopefully, the web staff client does a better job with large batches.
