We still have hopes that someone will respond here with a workaround for this issue, short of library staff manually removing the $ character from the affect fields, but I wanted to share that I've filed a bug report on the issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1449724 - comments are welcome there too.
