I wrote that last message on a time crunch (what’s new?). I have a lot of help
from LibraryThings. It’s called the Book Display Widget and well worth the
price! (I won’t announce what we’re paying in case it’s deal based on
collection size or patrons, but it’s affordable for our small library) I am one
of 6 full-time staff, and responsible for all things tech, so I’m thankful for
the time it saves me. LibraryThings reps are super responsive and
knowledgeable, but I really haven’t needed them since we were set up.

I can have our staff make lists using the Evergreen catalog book lists, and all
I need is the link to their list to create a widget. It pulls all the info over
and I can style up the widgets in many ways. Clicking on any item brings you
right to the Evergreen catalog. We use heavily for our Summer Reading Program,
since our youth librarian might have a few books ready for lists to get me
started and she can add things throughout the summer and the widget updates
without my intervention.

I believe it was Blake GH who showed off an embedded widget of his creation at
the 2015 conference. Again, I pay for mine but it costs about two days of work
for an annual subscription so it’s well worth it for me. Here’s more info:

Holly, I'd love to know how the widgets in your last link work. Are there
instructions on how to do this somewhere?

Our library (and City) uses a Drupal site – which is currently being revamped,
though not yet publically visible.

Our page has a search box and link to My Account and Advanced search:
http://www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/library. These will be much more visible in the
new version – bigger, better. We moved to Evergreen after this website was
created, so it’s not very pretty.

We use the catalog to create many widgets embedded within our site:

It's very easy to make a search widget that allows you to start an Evergreen
search from your library's website. We've done it at our library with
Wordpress, but it should be equally easy in any system that will let you write
HTML.

Our search form is slightly more complicated in that it allows you to choose
whether to search our website or the catalog. This requires some Javascript and
some some server-side scripting (in case someone has Javascript disabled) but
is still pretty easy. You can see our website at http://forbeslibrary.org/.
I've also included a screenshot of the "widget".

York County Library System is considering changes to our website. Our current
vendor will not be doing websites in the future. Can you let me know if you are
using WordPress or Drupal along with Evergreen. How does the website interact
with the catalog? Are you using any special widgits to make the integration
easier?

Have you built the website in house or use a vendor? What vendors can you
recommend?

Please forward examples of your websites so we can get a better idea of what is
being done by libraries with these platforms.
