What version of Centos are you using? Why are you not using the kernel that comes with it? If there is a version of Centos based on RHEL 5.5, I would use that.

If for some reason you want to use your own kernel, use the newest semistable version:
http://kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/mnc/open-iscsi/releases/open-iscsi-2.0-871.3.tar.gz
