        Well, scratch all of that.  The solution was to be found
on this very list back in 2008.  The problem was with the race
condition in tgtd I believe.  The post that tipped me off was:

it's mentioned that stopping the virtual IP first and starting it
last was attempted previously but didn't seem to be sufficient.
Does anyone know if this is still true?  This is now out of
open-iscsi territory somewhat, so I apologize in advance for the
noise.
