We've updated the plus.codes API <https://github.com/google/open-location-code/wiki/Plus-codes-API> so that it returns the same locality names that are displayed on Google Maps. A side effect is that the locality information no longer includes the locality_place_id field.
This is available on our testing instance. You can test it by making requests to: https://qa-dot-api-dot-plus-codes.appspot.com/api?<your arguments> There is no change to the arguments or how searches are handled. The only visible change should be that the locality returned in local_address may differ from the live API. If you use the existing API, I'd encourage you to test this instance. If there is no feedback, we expect to push it to live within the next week or so.
