Complete Description: This position is located in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO); Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD). Resource will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing upgrades to the Traffic Crash Reporting System, and for performing database administration tasks to ensure proper business operations. The candidate will also coordinate user requirement sessions and training as needed. The current application was written in SQL server, is Web-based and has a Java applet that was developed for the diagram portion of the traffic crash, so all those skills will be required. The diagram may require design work, and the Department may be considering redesigning the application as a whole to fit the newer SQL and .NET applications being built as part of the larger Records Management System (RMS). MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Performing guidance and oversight of server administration, database performance tuning, security, maintaining and troubleshooting all activities related to the application. - Guiding teams in designing, modeling and creating applications and systems for the production, test and training environment related to the traffic crash data application. - Supporting application development (performance tuning, troubleshooting, object creation and maintenance) and system maintenance (upgrades, promotion of stored procedures, backup and recovery, troubleshooting, monitoring, unload/reload of tables, data integration) on the application. - Leading staff in matters related to security, data and records management, and data security improvements related to the Traffic Crash Application. - Following agency best practices and standards for application and network architecture. - Providing network administration services to include the creation and maintenance of WAN and LAN Maps and Architectures - Performing installation of third party tools (e.g., Business Objects). - Working with other OCIO staff, contractors and MPD members to integrate the application into MPD's new Records Management System (RMS). - Collaborating with agency partners to enhance the current system in ways that will afford the city more accurate and complete traffic crash data. - Keeping abreast of technological changes in his/her area of expertise, assigned applications, functional areas and projects. - Responding timely to production and user issues through completion/resolution. - Working with application owners and engineers on new and existing projects to ensure database capacity and availability. Implementing procedures for moving data and database objects between development, testing and production environments. Designing and implementing database restore and recovery plans. - Documenting work in the form of status reports, Microsoft Project updates, etc. - Attending meetings with business users/owners about the application. - Performing similar duties for other IT projects at MPD. - Performing other related duties as assigned.
