Design, develop and support Teradata physical databases; Support the appropriate SQL engines; Develop and support the Logical Data Model extensions. Requires knowledge of data warehouse implementation process from business requirements through logical modeling, physical database design, data sourcing and data transformation, data loading, SQL, end-user tools and SQL performance tuning. Requires knowledge of relational database technology (DB2, Teradata, Oracle, Informix) in an application development environment and a working knowledge of third-party GUI tools (Business Objects, Visual Basic, Powerbuilder, GQL, MicroStrategy, Cognos, Information Advantage). Familiarity with state-of-the-art data warehousing technologies including OLAP end-user tools and data mining. Basic knowledge of operating environments (Windows NT, UNIX). Requires technical degree in computer science with a database concentration or related discipline, and 5 to 7 years related experience. Specialty assignments include Data Modeling/Mining, Data Transformation, Information Discovery, etc. *Additional Job Description*: *Cognos* *Report Developer* that will be local in the *Des Moines**, Iowa*. The Iowa Department of Education requires a capable and experienced person to develop reports using the *Cognos tool set* for its *data warehouse* of education data. The position requires performing functional and *data analysis on report requirements*, recommending solutions for development, and developing reporting objects *using Cognos 8*. The developer will be involved in the entire *project life cycle *from *evaluation, development and installation* of *end user reports and cubes*. This includes working with *IT staff and end users* on requirements and reporting issues and assisting end users in *troubleshooting problems.* *Creating documentation*, including *data dictionary* and *metadata*, will be required along with providing end user training and support. The project involves use of *prompts, drill-through, master-detail query relationships*, conditional formatting, grouping and sorting features of *Report Studio* to generate efficient and user-friendly reports. *Creation of complex reports* using *Report Studio* and performing *ad-hoc queries using* *Query Studio* will be necessary. Experience in *optimizing report* and *cube performance* is required. Experience in *Cognos 8 development* (*Query Studio, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, etc*.) and *Microsoft SQL Server 2005* is essential. Training and knowledge in the *Cognos Software Development Kit (SDK)* is highly desirable. Experience in report *security administration* and *data security* would be helpful. Skill in *writing moderate to complex Structured Query Language (SQL) queries* and stored procedures is necessary, as is the ability to understand and interpret business requirements and to translate into concise rules for developing reports. The ability to work with end users of various levels of technical sophistication, to communicate in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner, and to create effective end user documentation is necessary. Knowledge of and experience working with *education data is necessary*. Experience in *development of Cognos* *reports* for the following areas must be identified explicitly: o *Iowa** student* assessment *data including individual, group, and trend * o School district equity o Annual progress report including *school report card for the public* o Curriculum and *course data* o *Special education* o Student indicators including graduation, drop out, discipline, and attendance o Program indicators including at risk and talented/gifted data. B. Requisite Knowledge The individual selected will be expected to interact with customers in a professional manner, to understand the business requirements of the customer and to prepare clear concise statements of reporting requirements for the data warehouse.
