Position: Sr. Sybase DBA Location: Houston, TX Duration: 6-36 Months The ideal Sybase Database Administrator shall be an experienced professional that has performed the applicable duties in a large scale enterprise environment. Responsible for all aspects of administering client Sybase databases and servers. Utilize ancillary products for monitoring and support of the environments. Job requirements include hardware and software trouble shooting, setting up servers, and working with IT clients to help implement in-house and third party applications and databases. It is desirable that this person also have some experience with other DBMS and DBA tools, such as Microsoft SQL Server, Business Objects, and/or Informatica, etc. Perform all aspects of Sybase database administration. Provide 24x7 on-calls for 7-days (every 3 to 4 weeks). Perform occasional support at Business Continuity Data Center in Austin and Houston. Write procedures/scripts to satisfy a variety of requirements in support of the Sybase environments. Monitor server performance with various tools and methods. Troubleshoot server and application performance issues. Provide client support in a Development, Test, and Production environment. Perform Change Management activities on Production servers. Perform as a project leader for internal projects. Keep appropriate documentation up-to-date. Effectively communicate support activities with other team members. Exceptional ability in diagnosing and solving information system problems while maintaining professionalism and courtesy. 5 years of directly related work experience with Sybase database administration 2 of those years should be in a large enterprise level environment Extensive knowledge of Tran-SQL/Korn Shell/Perl scripting, Job Scheduling, Server setup, configuration, and all aspects of Sybase product capabilities Sybase Replication Server experience is a big plus Competent interpersonal skills, including ability to work productively and professionally with any level of business and technical resources Ability to effectively interact and communicate with a variety of individuals at all technical levels is required. Must possess a solid understanding of software and/or hardware systems used in assigned area.
